Recognizes the Best Adopters In the World!

Oakdale Elementary Playground Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Hunt Refining Company,
McAbee Construction Company, and as of the 2013-14 school year, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority (Beta Eta Zeta
Chapter) If you ask Oakdale students, they’d say
they are the best adopters in the world!
Representatives of McAbee Construction, Hunt Refining, Kiwanis Club, and UA’s Circle K discuss adding a playground to Oakdale Elementary School Oakdale students, faculty/staff, and parents truly believe our adopters are the best in the world! That’s because Oakdale has some cream of the crop business and community partners who are dedicated to improving the lives of students at the school in every way possible. This is evident in everything the adopters do and most recently taking on a massive new project to improve the Oakdale Playground.
he Oakdale Adopters tour the school’s playground. Josh Fryer (McAbee Construction) and Bruce Mills (Hunt Refining) present a playground design plan to Oakdale Adopt-A-School Committee members, Roberty Lanoux (Kiwanis Club), & Michael Moore  (UA’s Circle K). Oakdale currently has no swings and used equipment transplanted from the former Stafford Elementary School site where Annette Shelby Park is located.

The Oakdale Adopters along with Roberty Lanoux (Kiwanis Club),
& Michael Moore  (UA’s Circle K) tour the school’s playground.

The Oakdale Adopters engaged in many other activities during the 2013-14 school
year which included: Volunteering to teach Junior Achievement classes over a 5-week
period, Donating prizes for the Silent Auction at the Fall Festival Fundraiser, Helping to sponsor a school-wide field trip to the McWane Center for all 271 students and 50 chaperones at Oakdale, Sponsoring the “Pick Pumpkins Not Drugs” Contest, Providing monetary incentives for classes with the best anti-drug themes, Sponsoring Eagle Award trophies for best improved students (in any area) per classroom each nine weeks, Volunteering to read to students, and Providing snacks & juice for students each
day during the state-wide testing period.

So yes, the students, faculty/staff, and parents believe they’re blessed
with the very Best Adopters!

2014 McAbee Construction Dragon Boat Race Team

Junior League corporate sponsor McAbee Construction, won its first two heats and
paddled to a second place finish in a third heat. McAbee Construction finished in
eighth place overall with a difference of only a few tenths of a second between it
and the third place team. All of the teams were very competitive and it was a fun
day for a great cause! This year’s event was well organized and a free shuttle
provided by McAbee Construction made the Black Warrior River race course more
accessible and convenient for dragon boat race crews and spectators.
